IBM Manuals for CSCI 465

How to find a manual

If you need to find an IBM manual, go to the IBM BookManager site at this URL:

http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi-bin/bookmgr_OS390/LIBRARY

Now type in the serial number of the manual you want. For instance, you might want the OS/390 JCL Reference, which has serial number GC28-1757. When you type this in, you will be given a choice of a number of manuals having that serial number. Pick the one with the largest-numbered suffix. (At the time this was written, that would be GC28-1757-09. Notice the 09 part.)

You should now be able to use the manual.

Manuals for System Messages

System messages have ID numbers such as IEC141I. To look up the meaning of a system message, identify the volume you need from the three-letter prefix ("IEC" in this case) and then find the message involved by its number ("141" in this case). In some cases, a "reason code" is also provided. Knowing how to look up these messages is a useful skill.
