We encourage our users to login with SSH where possible. At present both version 1 and version 2 protocols are supported, although we recommend using protocol 2.
Currently we are using OpenSSH on our unix servers. However, we will switch to alternative implementations, should circumstances warrant such a change. You may wish to download the server entries in our ssh_known_hosts file, and perhaps check the digital signature ssh_known_hosts.asc.
For purposes of checking, hostkey fingerprints of our servers are available in a PGP signed page.
Our secure web pages are headed by https://www.cs.niu.edu/ although they are mostly empty. At present, these pages are mainly a demonstration for our students. Our server certificate is signed by our own CA (certification authority). If you wish, you may install our CA certificate.
