man command-name
The man displays pages from on-line system documentation included with UNIX. This documentation is useful if you know what utility you want to use but have forgotten how to use it. Because the descriptions in the system documentation are often quite terse, they are most helpful if you already understand basically what a utility does. The manual pages can also be rather overwhelming for new users due to the vast number of options available for many commands. In some cases you may be better off using Google to look up a command on the web instead, since there are many web pages devoted to explaining Unix and its utilities.
The command-name is the name of the utility for which you want to see documentation.
